FYI, there seems to be an old gw.com bug report for this referenced in
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1296868

0000404: file reports position independent executables as mimetype
application/x-sharedlib

But I can't find it on the current bugs.astron.com portal
