[File] Script to find issues in pattern files

Thanks for your response. It's great to see some things being fixed or
cleaned up. To be clear, though, I'm not saying anything about whether I
think that should be done. There's obviously a nonzero risk of breaking
something, and opinions will probably differ about the extent to which
existing patterns should be changed.
