[File] Testing file binary without installing

Hello,

I would like to be able to test a custom file binary but without 
installing it and messing with my system.

I’ve compiled file from source (using github clone, even if I hate 
github) but running /src/file gives me the error:

file: could not find any valid magic files! (No such file or directory)


Is there a way to skip the make install step?
