[Tcsh] rmd160 hash for tcsh sources?

I've just found that tcsh source tar files are hashed with some
RIPEMD-160 algorithm. The corresponding utility 'rmd160' is not
present in any of OSes that I use (MacOS, RHEL-like Linux, Ubuntu) and
not even easily available.

Why don't we use 'sha256' or 'sha512'?
